Welcome to the Lavender Practice!
Hello my name is Yvette Lavender and I am a fully qualified Medical Herbalist BSc (Hons) MNIMH. I am trained in principles of medical science, pharmacology, nutrition and lifestyle. I am also a fully qualified aromatherapist ITEC with an extensive knowledge of the power and therapeutic value of plant chemicals.
What is herbal medicine?
Herbal medicine has been used by every culture on earth since the beginning of time. Herbal medicine follows a functional medicine system which uses a biology-based approach to identify and address the root cause of disease rather than only treating the symptoms of disease. Herbal medicine is an evidence-based system of healing that uses plant chemicals, essential oils, diet, exercise, and lifestyle interventions to help prevent disease and fortify the health and well-being of the mind, body, and soul. Understanding the healing power of plant chemicals is the key to preventing chronic disease.
“Long term and sustained health starts in the gut and shines from the inside out”
To thrive at all levels, it is critical to restore your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Simple changes to diet and lifestyle, sleep patterns, stress and relaxation techniques and introducing the power of plant medicine can make huge differences and help restore a feeling of being in control. Brief clinical examinations if necessary, and an in-depth medical history will help me to get to the root of the problem and develop a strategy of plant/nutritional therapy to optimise the function and diversity of your gut bacteria and formulate a personalised, herbal prescription and management plan to help you achieve long term and sustained health results. After a period of approximately 12 weeks, significant improvement in gut function and overall feelings of vitality and well being should be reached.

Herbal medicine uses the whole plant; leaves, stalks, roots, seeds and petals. Modern medicine, produced by the pharmaceutical industry, isolates single active ingredients. For example, Aspirin which is produced by isolating salicylic acid from the Meadowsweet plant, can cause the lining of the stomach to bleed. In herbal medicine, the whole Meadowsweet plant, complete with its diverse spectrum of therapeutic, natural plant chemicals is used. This prevents irritation and bleeding from salicylic acid! Nature knows best!!
